Our Pastor

Pastor Bob, Katie, Owen (our grandson) my wife Dail, Mandie & Bobby

Bob’s Story: I grew up in up-state NY, and moved to NC with my family in 9th grade. I graduated from High Point College (NC) in 1980. Yes, I played basketball there. I worked at Procter & Gamble for 9 years as a technician making Crest Toothpaste in Greensboro, NC! I started going to church when I was 27.

My best friend was killed in a hunting accident soon thereafter, and this is what God used to drive me to my knees. I was born again March 1st 1987 while sitting in Christ Community Church in Greensboro, NC. Six years later I left P&G for Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL, and graduated in ‘95.

I was the pastor at my first church, Huntersville ARP Church just north of Charlotte, NC for five years ‘95-’00. And was the pastor at Shepherd Rd Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, FL for seven years 2000-’07.

I then worked through a one year “church planting internship” from May 07 – May 08., at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Placid, FL, praying, planning, and preparing to follow God’s lead as He starts this new church

We arrived in Jax, May 1st 2008, ready to get started!

Our Staff

The emphasis of SonLife is Worship, Discipleship and Missions. Our motto: Loving God, Loving People & Serving Beyond. Patterned after what Jesus identified as the “greatest commandment(s)”, to “love the Lord your God with all your heart soul and mind,” and the second, “to love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:35-37

Dail Hovey is our Children’s Ministry Director, she is also a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. We are hoping to develop a ministry to the families of children with special needs as God provides the people resources (like you!).

Joe McKenzie is our Worship Leader. He has been in full time youth ministry for over a decade. Joe is now ministering to students and teachers at Terry Parker HS as a full time teacher and as an athletics coach.
